NCMA’ Sculpture Park – Ongoing. More than 50 works, many of them monumental in size, by renowned artists including Botero, Tom Otterness, Calder, Lichtenstein and DiSuvero among others are situated to interact with nature on the museum’s magnificent 145-acre property. There is a $2 per car parking fee on weekends (members free). Nassau County Museum of Art is located at One Museum Drive (just off Northern Boulevard, Route 25A, two traffic lights west of Glen Cove Rd.) in Roslyn Harbor. Town of Oyster Bay Classic Car Cruise Nights. Friday nights at the Massapequa Rail Road Station parking lot on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The event benefits community food banks, as each participant is required to bring two cans of food to register their car to be on display. The event is free of charge to residents. Those who wish to display their vintage cars at the event are required to donate two cans of food. Motorcycle displays are not permitted. Rules for bringing your own vintage vehicle include having to stay for the duration of the event; having valid registration and plates; and registering upon arrival, beginning at 7:15 p.m. All vehicles must be driven by their owners. Christine Lavin. Co-Presented with the Folk Music Society of Huntington Open Jam Song Swap; 4 p.m. at the Heckscher Park Gazebo; bring your voice, instruments and friends! Christine Lavin is a New York City-based singer, songwriter, and promoter of contemporary folk music who is known for her biting wit, expressed in both her music and her onstage performances. Many of her songs alternate between emotional reflections on romance and outright comedy, with titles such as “Sensitive New Age Guys” and “Bald-Headed Men.” Opening Act Gathering Time Gathering Time is a new acoustic harmony trio whose sound is reminiscent of folk legends Peter, Paul, & Mary. The group’s first recording together, a lively cover of Peter Yarrow's holiday classic "Light One Candle," quickly became a favorite on folk radio stations from New York to Israel. Beach Day 2008 on Fire Island. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre Office of Young Adult Ministry is conducting a Beach Day on Fire Island for young adults in their 20s and 30s. The day will feature fun in the sun including lunch, praise and worship, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Mass and a barbeque dinner. TAI CHI. From 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dorothy Scott, instructor and practitioner, teaches Tai Chi at Clark Botanical Gardens in Albertson. She has developed a style consistent with the Wu Style of Tai Chi. Public Golf Tournament and Gala to Benefit Montauk Downs State Park. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce a public golf tournament to be held on also, 8/9, at Montauk Downs State Park. There will also be a gala dinner and awards ceremony. Proceeds from the tournament and gala will be dedicated to the improvement of golf programs and for the renovation of Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course. Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society’s Annual Summer Benefit. Will recognize the contributions of two men who have strengthened our understanding of the natural world and the importance of its preservation. The Babylon Arts Council and The Town of Babylon are proud to present the annual Bluegrass Festival at Tanner Park in Copiague overlooking the scenic Great South Bay. Family Rosary Rally and Concert. Devotion to Mary is an essential aspect of Catholic spirituality. Hampton Classic. Local vocalists will once again have the opportunity to shine at the 33rd annual Hampton Classic Horse Show on Local Day, by participating in the 2nd Annual National Anthem Singing Contest sponsored by 88.3 WLIU-FM Radio. Applications for the 2008 contest are due by 8/13 and all finalists will be notified by August 18. Each applicant must submit a CD or cassette tape with two sample songs, one being the National Anthem. Both must be recorded a capella. Those unable to attend the Hampton Classic will have ample opportunity to hear the anthem contest on WLIU 88.3 FM, who will also broadcast live programming on 8/30 and 8/31. WVVH-TV, the official Long Island television station of the Hampton Classic, will broadcast up to five hours of competition and highlights each day during the Classic. Tiffany and the Gilded Age. Nassau County Museum of Art (Main Galleries) celebrates Louis Comfort Tiffany’s work in art and design(through November 2). Best known for his exquisite stained glass, Tiffany (1848-1933) created a cloistered glamorous world for himself in the midst of the Gilded Age. Laurelton Hall, the home he built in Oyster Bay in 1905, reflected his dramatic shift from the heavy, dark décor of the Victorian Era to a light-filled, exotic Orientalism that came to shape interiors and fashions for the rich and famous of his time.
