Volunteers Wanted for Sunrise on Wheels.
Sunrise on Wheels is a
year-round, in-hospital program for children who are waiting for their
chemotherapy treatment. This amazing outreach program takes place at
Cohen Children’s Medical Center (formerly Schneider Children’s
Hospital), Stony Brook University Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical
Center, and Brookdale University Hospital in their outpatient Pediatric
Hematology/Oncology clinics. Volunteers play with the children and
change what is generally a sad and depressing day, into one filled with

Volunteer Ombudspersons Wanted
Family and Children’s Association is seeking volunteers for its
long-standing Ombudservice Program, part of a statewide network of
certified volunteers who visit nursing homes, adult homes, and assisted
living facilities in Nassau County. Ombudspersons serve as advocates for
residents and their families. If you are looking for a meaningful way to
improve the quality of life for our frail, sick and elderly neighbors
who currently reside in long-term care facilities, this program is for
you. Family & Children’s is planning a training class for October.

Defying the Devil: Christian Clergy Who Saved Jews from the
Holocaust, on loan from the Harriet and Kenneth Kupferberg
Holocaust Resource Center and Archives of Queensborough Community
College, will be on display at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance
Center of Nassau County. The Center has opened its long-awaited
permanent exhibit which uses photographs, artifacts, and video to relate
the events of the Holocaust and relate them to more recent genocides and

Tribute. The City of Long Beach,
New York (Riverside on the beach) will again play host to a unique event

Activities feature Wind Spirit, an
impressive, award-winning kiting display that undulates along the

artistry; the Mural of Hope encourages individuals

Foreclosure Seminar.
To help Nassau residents caught in the growing mortgage
foreclosure crisis, volunteer attorneys will
be available to answer their questions at a free clinic sponsored
by the Nassau County Bar Association at the NCBA headquarters, 15th and
West Streets, Mineola, from 3 to 6 p.m. Attorneys have volunteered to
provide one-on-one guidance, advice and direction to any Nassau County
homeowner who is concerned about foreclosure matters or is already in
the foreclosure process involving property in Nassau County.

Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story.
Baseball legend Sandy Koufax will turn 75 years old this December. In
celebration of this The National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum,
74 Hauppauge Road, Commack, has assembled 32 different artists to
showcase their works (oils, watercolors, sculpture and photos) of Sandy
Koufax. The exhibit, free to the public, opens on October 4, which is
also the same night of the screening of the new film Jews and
Baseball: An American Love Story, also at The Suffolk Y JCC.
Admission to the film is $10/person for Y members and $15 for
non-members. Immediately following the film there will be a Q & A
session with the film's writer, Ira Berkow; director, Peter Miller;
former major leaguer Art Smasky and author Marty Appel. For more
