Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York is branching out into the elder care field. The agency, known for 79 years as primarily serving children and families with foster care and adoption, recently launched ElderCare Solutions to provide counseling to employees of companies in the New York metropolitan area… Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay has received a special brand new rhododendron to add to its prestigious plant collections. The rhododendron “Margaret S. Coe” is a new cultivar named for the daughter-in-law of William Robertson Coe, the insurance magnate and former owner of Planting Fields, that received a Certificate of International Registration from the Royal Horticultural Society, United Kingdom...The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today it is now using new cutting-edge technology - similar to a global positioning system (GPS) — to treat prostate cancer. The Calypso System provides clinicians with an innovative solution for targeting and continually monitoring the prostate in real time, during a patient’s radiation therapy treatment for prostate cancer. North Shore-LIJ is only one of two centers in the Northeast — and the only hospital in Queens or Long Island — that offers this innovative technology… Mercy Medical Center was notified in April that the results of two recent on-site surveys by The Joint Commission pointed to continuation of Mercy’s current full accreditation with the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Mercy has continuously held full accreditation from The Joint Commission since the inception of such recognition more than four decades ago… Island Nursing and Rehab Center resident, Nora Elizabeth Wright turned 106 years old on April 24. Our congratulations… A state report released in April showed that Alan Hartman, MD, chairman of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and LIJ Medical Center, was one of two cardiac surgeons on Long Island with outcomes that were significantly better than the statewide average in New York… Amy Pakes, RN, nurse manager of the Nassau County Firefighters Burn Center at NUMC, was selected as the recipient of the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council Nurse of Distinction Award in April… Ileana Argueta, a resident of Freeport and an accountant assistant the Nassau HealthCare Corporation Community Center School Based program in Roosevelt, was honored by Nassau University Medical Center, as the April 2008 Employee of the Month, It also opened the Zaki Hossain Center for Hypertension, Diabetes and Vascular Disease at Nassau University Medical Center in April… Jacqueline Alm was been appointed to the position of, President of the Volunteers at New Island Hospital in April. Jackie has volunteered at New Island for over ten years and is the Coordinator of the Toy Program at the hospital… Nassau Health Care Corporation announced in April that Tabata Esquivel, a resident of East Meadow and a bilingual resources interviewer, was named the April Employee of the Month.
