Planting Fields Arboretum
State Historic Park in Oyster Bay
has received a special brand new rhododendron to add to its prestigious
plant collections. The rhododendron “Margaret S. Coe” is a new
cultivar named for the daughter-in-law of William Robertson Coe, the
insurance magnate and former owner of Planting Fields, that received a
Certificate of International Registration from the Royal Horticultural
Society, United Kingdom...The North
Shore-LIJ Health System announced today it is now using new cutting-edge
technology - similar to a global positioning system (GPS) — to treat
prostate cancer. The Calypso System provides clinicians with an
innovative solution for targeting and continually monitoring the prostate in
real time, during a patient’s radiation therapy treatment for prostate
cancer. North Shore-LIJ is only one of two centers in the Northeast — and
the only hospital in Queens or Long Island — that offers this innovative
technology… Mercy Medical Center
was notified in April that the results of two recent on-site surveys by The
Joint Commission pointed to continuation of Mercy’s current full
accreditation with the nation’s predominant standards-setting and
accrediting body in health care. Mercy has continuously held full
accreditation from The Joint Commission since the inception of such
recognition more than four decades ago… Island Nursing and Rehab Center
resident, Nora Elizabeth Wright turned 106 years old on April 24. Our
congratulations… A state report released in April showed that Alan
Hartman, MD, chairman of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at North
Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and LIJ Medical Center, was one
of two cardiac surgeons on Long Island with outcomes that were significantly
better than the statewide average in New York…
